Wearable Art

fashion in art, art in fashion

“Halston Makes Visors and Wind Socks Chic for Fall,” reads a New York Times headline from 1965. And the accompanying photo, of the young milliner and a couple of his kooky creations, is sweet. The black-and-white pompon hat in particular looks rather cartoonish, but Halston wasn’t the first to dream up such crazy headgear. Allen Tucker painted a young woman in a similar hat way back in 1913!
