Edgar Degas did a series of etchings and drawings of his dear friend and protege Mary Cassatt during their visits at the Louvre. Cassatt, who would become one of the Impressionist movement’s most successful painters, was born to an upper-middle-class family in Pittsburgh, and was extremely well-educated and -traveled, as her outfit here indicates.
