A few months ago my fiance and I went to Atlanta for a wedding. Neither of us had ever visited Atlanta before, so we decided to make a little vacation out of it, spending about four days there. Though much of our time was spent doing wedding stuff, we did have about three afternoons devoted to exploring. Of course, our No. 1 priority was to check out at a museum (No. 2 was vintage shopping). We were staying just a short walk from the High Museum, so we spent a few hours before getting ready for the rehearsal dinner there. It was fantastic! I loved the permanent collection, and I found myself taking pictures of paintings that featured subjects with interesting clothing, accessories or hairstyles. I went to Paris a few months later and did the same thing at The Louvre (the D’Orsay did not allow photography, unfortunately, though I wrote down the paintings I liked in my little notebook). I then had a friend in town, and we took a stroll through MOMA’s permanent collection (which I hadn’t done in quite some time), and I did the same thing. And I realized that maybe I could do something with all these pictures.
I’m not really sure what my aim is for this project—this Tumblr of style or clothing in painting. For now I am just going to post the paintings. Maybe I’ll add commentary. And maybe eventually I’ll start doing themed posts grouping several images together. Anyway, I am looking forward to this new direction; I hope you are too.
